When selecting music for the wedding ceremony keep in mind that this is a sacred celebration, a liturgy of the Church that brings together families in prayer and worship. The wedding liturgy reflects our parish worship, and for this reason, the Church will make every effort to help the engaged couple prepare music for the wedding liturgy that expresses sacred texts. The music selections found in this link are good examples.
After a priest or deacon has assisted the engaged couple with the scheduling and marriage preparation for their wedding and before the specific liturgy is prepared, the couple is to contact Morris Stevens, the Director of Music, (512-451-5121) or Morris Stevens @sttaustin.org , for information about the music at the wedding.
The director will give the engaged couple a list of guidelines for wedding music preparation and the importance of sacred music for the service. As a sacred act of worship, the Catholic wedding liturgy is a beautiful expression of God’s love in the life of the couple. Daniel Girardot, Cantor, and our organist, are the parish wedding musicians and will provide the music at your wedding. Their fees are separate from the church fees and will be provided upon request. They will also recommend and work with excellent instrumentalists, such as trumpeters, violinists, string ensembles, etc. who may also assist at your ceremony if needed. If the engaged couple requests that a visiting musician be allowed to join the parish organist and cantor provided, the guest musician may assist after receiving the permission of the Director of Music. Normal bench fees will apply in the event of an approved guest musician.
A suggested list of music and recordings will help the couple prepare for the consultation session with the music staff (contact the director). The engaged couple will complete the liturgy preparation with the priest or deacon who will preside at their wedding.
